The Safe AI for Children Alliance Newsletter – October: Taking Action
Welcome to the October edition of the Safe AI for Children Alliance (SAIFCA) newsletter!
We’re so glad to have you with us on our mission to build a safer AI future for children – one that protects them from harm while ensuring technology truly serves their wellbeing.
🛡️ Global AI Non-Negotiables for Children – Launched!
This month we’re proud to announce the launch of our Global AI Non-Negotiables Campaign.
We’re calling for three absolute protections for children that must be put in place now:
1️⃣ AI must never create fake sexualised images of children
2️⃣ AI must never be designed to make children emotionally dependent
3️⃣ AI must never encourage children to harm themselves
These are simple, uncontroversial truths – yet children are being harmed in these ways every day.
Rather than launching a petition, we’re asking you to take direct action by writing to your political representative.
It only takes five minutes using our template, but personal letters can carry far more weight than online petitions.
When representatives hear directly from constituents, they listen – and that’s how real change begins.
We’ve already had a powerful initial response, with supporters from around the world taking action and spreading the word. This is what collective impact looks like.

🆕 New Briefing for Schools & Parents: AI-Generated Videos and Sora 2
OpenAI recently released Sora 2 in the US and Canada – a tool capable of creating hyper-realistic videos from text prompts. While technologically impressive, it also brings serious risks, particularly for children and young people.
Within days of release, viral clips emerged showing deceased celebrities in violent or disrespectful scenarios – a stark reminder of how easily likenesses can be manipulated without consent. Despite OpenAI’s safeguards, many were bypassed almost immediately.
Although Sora 2 is not yet available worldwide, similar tools are rapidly emerging.
Schools and parents should prepare for a future where AI-generated videos become common and distinguishing real from fake is increasingly difficult.
To support educators and families, SAIFCA published an Initial Briefing on AI-Generated Videos and Sora 2 within days of Sora 2’s release.
Feedback has been that it’s clear, helpful, and actionable – and we’ll be expanding it in the months ahead.

🌍 SAIFCA Signs Global Call for AI Red Lines
We’re proud to have signed the Global Call for AI Red Lines – a united effort to promote international coordination in defining what AI must never do.
This aligns perfectly with SAIFCA’s mission: to protect children today while contributing to a brighter AI future.

🎥 One to Watch – AI Issues General Knowledge!
This month’s recommendation comes from the Center for Humane Technology – an 'Ask Us Anything' episode packed with accessible, thought-provoking insights about AI’s wider impact.
🎧 You can listen to the full 45 minutes or dip in anywhere for five minutes of valuable “big picture” understanding.
📣 Can You Help?
We’re often asked, “What can I do to help?”
This month, the answer is simple: take five minutes to write to your political representative in support of the Global AI Non-Negotiables for Children.
We’ve made it easy – with a pre-written template, links to help identify the right contact, and soon, translated versions for multiple countries and many more resources.
