SAIFCA reaffirms our support for the Global Call for AI Red Lines - here we explain why enforceable international limits on AI risks are essential to protecting children’s lives and futures, and encourage other organisations to join the call.
SAIFCA Reaffirms Support for the Global Call for AI Red Lines

A year ago, the Safe AI for Children Alliance joined more than 90 organisations and 300 experts and public figures, including former heads of state and Nobel Prize winners, in supporting the Global Call for AI Red Lines.

On the Call’s first anniversary, we reaffirm that commitment and encourage other organisations that share its concerns to add their support.

The Call urges governments to reach an international agreement on AI red lines by the end of 2026, with robust mechanisms to enforce them. These limits would address unacceptable AI uses and behaviours, helping to prevent some of the most serious risks. With the proposed deadline approaching, the need to translate support into government action is increasingly urgent.

SAIFCA’s work continues to address the harms children face today, from AI-generated sexual abuse materials to dangerous chatbot interactions, alongside practical guidance for families and schools. Our responsibility also extends to the wider conditions on which children’s safety and futures depend.

Children rely on functioning healthcare, clean water, reliable food supplies, and communities able to care for them. AI capabilities that could enable severe disruption to these systems, whether through deliberate misuse or loss of control, are therefore a direct concern for organisations working to protect children. Children can be affected by decisions about powerful AI systems regardless of whether they ever use those systems themselves, and they have little influence over the decisions being made.

Given the potential scale and irreversibility of catastrophic harm, SAIFCA believes governments have a responsibility to act preventively, establishing enforceable limits before those dangers materialise.

International cooperation is essential because the consequences of unsafe AI development can extend across borders. Supporting this effort is part of our commitment to protecting children’s lives, rights, and futures.

We encourage organisations that share these concerns to read the Call and add their support.
