The Non-Negotiables for Children's AI Safety
Research shows that direct constituent communication is the most effective tactic for creating legislative change.
We're asking you to help us to take the most effective action to get urgent measures put in place to protect children: write to your representative.
Thank you for supporting the global Non-Negotiables Campaign.
We're delighted that you're joining us in demanding three global non-negotiable protections for children:
1) AI Must Never Create Fake Sexualised Images of Children - AI systems which can create fake sexualised images of children should not be available.
2) AI Must Never Be Designed to Make Children Emotionally Dependent - AI systems should not be engineered to exploit children's emotional needs.
3) AI Must Never Encourage Children to Harm Themselves - AI systems should not encourage children toward self-harm, eating disorders, violence, and other dangerous behaviours.
Letter To Political Representative: Template
We have provided this letter template to make it quick and easy for you, but of course using it is totally optional.
We will be adding country-specific templates as soon as possible.
The one below is especially appropriate in the UK, but can be easily adapted for your own locality.
It's very helpful to personalise your letter - for example mention if you're a parent, teacher, concerned citizen, someone working in tech etc. - but you can also leave the template as it is if you prefer.

Subject: Urgent: Please Support Three Non-Negotiables for Children's AI Safety
Dear _,
I'm writing as your constituent to respectfully urge you to support immediate legislation establishing three 'non-negotiable' principles for AI systems that pose risks to children.
Artificial intelligence is developing faster than the rules to keep children safe. While we wait for comprehensive AI regulation, children are being harmed right now by AI systems that are freely accessible and subject to minimal, if any, regulation.
I'm asking you to support legislation that establishes three absolute protections for children:
1. AI Must Never Create Fake Sexualised Images of Children
AI systems which can create fake sexualised images of children should not be available.
2. AI Must Never Be Designed to Make Children Emotionally Dependent
AI systems should not be engineered to exploit children's emotional needs.
3. AI Must Never Encourage Children to Harm Themselves
AI systems should not encourage children toward self-harm, eating disorders, violence, and other dangerous behaviours.
These harms are happening at scale, right now, in our communities. Every day we delay, more children are harmed.
These principles are achievable because the technology to prevent these harms exists today. Age verification, content filtering, design standards, and safety testing are all technically feasible. What's missing is the legal requirement for AI companies to implement these protections.
What I'm respectfully asking you to do:
- Support amendments to relevant legislation requiring these three protections for children
- Raise this issue in Parliament and with relevant ministers
- Co-sponsor or introduce child safety legislation for AI systems
- Support international coordination on children's AI safety standards
Every child deserves these protections. AI companies have the resources and capability to implement these safeguards immediately. But we need the legal requirement to do so.
Children cannot wait while we debate perfect comprehensive global solutions. I urge you to act now to establish these critical protections. Thank you for your time and consideration.
