The Non-Negotiables for Children's AI Safety
Research shows that direct constituent communication is the most effective tactic for creating legislative change.
We're asking you to help us to take the most effective action to get urgent measures put in place to protect children: write to your representative.
Thank you for supporting the global Non-Negotiables Campaign.
We're delighted that you're joining us in demanding three global non-negotiable protections for children:
1) AI Must Never Create Fake Sexualised Images of Children - AI systems which can create fake sexualised images of children should not be available.
2) AI Must Never Be Designed to Make Children Emotionally Dependent - AI systems should not be engineered to exploit children's emotional needs.
3) AI Must Never Encourage Children to Harm Themselves - AI systems should not encourage children toward self-harm, eating disorders, violence, and other dangerous behaviours.

We have provided this letter template to make it quick and easy for you, but of course using it is totally optional.
We will be adding country-specific templates as soon as possible.
This letter template is designed to work globally.
You can use it as is, or:
- Customise it for your country's specific legislative context
- Add references to local laws or pending legislation
- Mention specific committees or officials relevant to your area
The core message - the three non-negotiables - remains the same everywhere.
It's very helpful to personalise your letter - for example mention if you're a parent, teacher, concerned citizen, someone working in tech etc. - but you can also leave the template as it is if you prefer.

Subject: Urgent: Please Support Three Non-Negotiables for Children's AI Safety
Dear [Representative Name],
I'm writing as your constituent to respectfully ask you to support immediate legislation establishing three non-negotiable protections for children in the age of artificial intelligence.
AI is developing faster than the rules needed to keep children safe. While we wait for comprehensive regulation, children are already being harmed by AI systems that are freely accessible and subject to minimal, if any, oversight.
These aren't hypothetical future risks – they're happening now. Children have been targeted with AI-generated sexual imagery of themselves. Vulnerable young people are forming dependencies on AI “companions” designed to maximise emotional attachment. Children struggling with mental health have been encouraged toward self-harm by AI systems.
I’m asking you to support legislation that establishes three absolute protections for children:
- AI must never create fake sexualised images of children.
- AI must never be designed to make children emotionally dependent.
- AI must never encourage children to harm themselves.
These protections are technically achievable today. The technology exists – age assurance, content filtering, safety testing, and design standards that prevent exploitation. What’s missing is the legal requirement for AI companies to implement them.
This call isn’t anti-AI or about slowing progress. It’s about setting basic safety boundaries – the same kind of responsibility that every other powerful industry has learned to adopt. With clear rules, AI can still flourish, but in ways that protect children rather than put them at risk.

I’m respectfully asking you to:
- Support or introduce legislation requiring these three protections for children
- Raise this issue with colleagues and decision-makers
- Champion children’s AI safety through your legislative work
- Support international coordination on shared safety standards
Every child deserves these protections. AI companies have the resources and capability to implement them now – but we need you to require it by law.
Children cannot wait while we debate perfect solutions. The window to embed child protection into AI systems is closing rapidly.
